Iluka Resources has awarded a $1.7 million contract to SIMPEC for its mineral sands development at Cataby in Western Australia.
The WestStar Industrial engineering contractor business has previously completed the construction of two accommodation facilities at Cataby.
SIMPEC’s new agreement with Iluka will see it install a flocculant treatment plant, which includes the fabrication and construction of four tanks over a period of three months. The contractor will also be in charge of structural, mechanical and piping works.
The flocculant plant will form part of Iluka’s mineral and chemical processing facility at Cataby.
SIMPEC managing director Mark Dimasi said, “This is a tribute to our tank delivery team stemming from our current project down in Greenbushes, Western Australia.
“What a commendable achievement to secure a project directly with Iluka and further utilising our tank team to deliver industry excellence.”
The contractor delivered $2.7 million water treatment tanks works at the Talison Lithium mine earlier this year. Its order book was standing at $9.5 million.
The Cataby mineral sands deposit, 150 kilometres north of Perth, is a chloride ilmenite deposit with associated zircon and rutile production. It will commence production in June 2019.
