Hedland marina on ‘fast track’ for 2020

Premier Mark McGowan has headed to the Pilbara announcing to ‘fund and fast track’ a $95 million marina in Port Hedland.

The Premier and Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced a commitment to build the Spoilbank Marina securing the economic future, meet recreational needs and long term sustainability of the town - on Monday.

The initial plan to build on the western side of the port’s spoil bank area, near Port Hedland Yacht Club is expected before 2020 after confirmation of timeline - with an additional $15 million in funding set aside for ongoing maintenance.

ATO bid to return $1.7b in lost super to West Australians with 378,000 lost accounts

A single person in Rockingham has lost a superannuation account holding more than $1.5 million, figures show, as the tax office tries to reconnect West Australians with hundreds of thousands of forgotten nest eggs.

The ATO has revealed there are 378,000 lost super accounts in the State with $1.7 billion at stake.

Over the past year, thousands of previously lost accounts have been found with $409 million consolidated into active accounts.

Affordability in Perth’s residential sales market improved during the September 2018 quarter, with house and unit prices softening marginally. 

REIWA President Damian Collins said there was excellent opportunity for buyers and investors to take advantage of current market conditions to secure their next home or investment property. 

“While the worst of the market downturn appears to be behind us, the results of the September 2018 quarter reveal conditions are favourable for buyers and investors,” Mr Collins said.

‘China option’ gas hub push for Port Hedland

Former premier Colin Barnett has issued a call for a new gas hub to be built at Port Hedland for the growing Chinese market and warned that low local content could damage support for the LNG industry.

In a speech yesterday, Mr Barnett argued for a “China option”, saying gas from the Browse Basin off the North West could be piped to Port Hedland, saying other onshore sites faced increasing environmental and heritage issues.
